The dignity of the human being as an ontological limit of human doing

Resumo

El presente trabajo tiene como propósito central establecer que la dignidad humana, concebida desde su raíz ontológica, es la vía más sólida y coherente capaz de fijar límites inapelables a todo intento de anteponer lo fácticamente posible a lo éticamente lícito. Con miras a alcanzar ese objetivo se ha dividido el artículo en dos partes. La primera define el significado del término dignidad. La segunda argumenta que solo la dignidad concebida ontológicamente puede fijar un límite eficaz contra todo ataque que ponga en riesgo su integridad y universalidad.

Abstract

The central purpose of this paper is to establish that human dignity, conceived from its ontological root, is the most solid and coherent path to set unappealable limits to any attempt to place what is factually possible before what is ethically licit. With a view to achieving this objective, the article is divided into two parts. The first defines the meaning of the term dignity. The second argues that only ontologically conceived dignity can set an effective limit against any attack that jeopardizes its integrity and universality.
